CARBONEIDS (2008)
CARBONEIDS Synthsyg

ENGLISH:

In 1998, the Danish duo Carboneids, consisting of Bjorn Jeppesen and Claus Holm, was still occupied in the making of heavy metal but in 2005 they changed over to something completely different, namely synth-pop. Using a range of synthesizers and a Rickenbacker-bass - that cannot be heard though - these gentlemen now present thirteen light-footed compact numbers on Synthsyg having a very high degree of influences by Kraftwerk in Abstinens Synthomer, Depeche Mode and The Human League, while you could also think of Yellow Magic Orchestra in Chinabox and the titletrack or even of Casiopea in Ute / Nattoj. So, popular, playful tunes, and a regular use of vocoders. The fetching and at the same time not so roaring complex compositions are very much appealing to the ear, and are indeed in the style of the artists mentioned, without giving the idea it was stolen. Some of the pieces give you the impression that you’re behind a PC playing some sort of funny game like in The Future Of Zeroth. Especially the very own input of these two gentlemen, the variation and a dance beat that is non-overbearing make this a nice disc after all. A record you can play very loud, but also quiet at a lower volume while reading or relaxing. By the way Synthsyg is the second album by Carboneids. Just as the first album ...And Dark Nights, this cd can be ordered at Groove Unlimited. The production is modest and certainly not too thick, nevertheless it gets an ample sufficient mark!
