SPLINTERED (NL+E)

Splintered is het derde album van het Italiaanse T.A.C. (Tomografia Assiala Computerizzata) in successie en de hoeveelheid ritmische klanken ten opzichte van melodieën en zang is in het nadeel van de laatste verschoven. In een nummer als Broken is te horen dat zang en donkere bastonen een mooie sfeer kunnen creëren, maar dit soort nummers delft helaas het onderspit op deze cd. Wat je veel hoort zijn metaalachtige hamerklanken met echo’s, effecten en wat zeurderige stemmetjes. Ledge, het tiende nummer van de in totaal vijftien, is wat mij betreft weer de moeite waard is. Ook Blue Mutation en Little Fly kun je dankzij de viool en de zang weer onderbrengen in de categorie ‘muziek’. De bewust valse nootjes zijn misschien origineel, maar ik kan het niet waarderen. En voordat het album na 63 minuten jammerlijk afsluit met een wirwar van geluiden en percussie, klinkt daarvoor nog een redelijk aardig en wat melancholisch deuntje dat erover denkt om ooit de dansvloer op te gaan zoeken. Geen kost voor mij; dat moge duidelijk zijn.

Splintered is the third album by the Italian band T.A.C. (Tomografia Assiala Computerizzata) in succession. The balance of rhythmic sounds with regard to melodies and singing has shifted to the detriment of the latter. In a track like Broken you can hear that the voice and the dark bass tones can create a strong atmosphere, but this kind of thing usually comes off pretty badly. There is a lot of metallic hammering with echoes, effects and rather complaining voices. Eventually, the track Ledge, from a total of fifteen filling 63 minutes, makes it a bit worthwhile for me. Also Blue Mutation and Little Fly are, thanks to the violin and vocals, back in the category of ‘music’. However, the consciously ‘false’ notes are perhaps original, but I do not appreciate them. Before the album closes uncomfortably with a mishmash of noises and percussion, there is a reasonably pleasant and melancholy tune that gives the impression that it is trying to find the dance floor. This album is not for me, I think that’s obvious.
