BEATOOM (NL+E)

De Moskoviet Alexey Obraztsoff werkt al jaren in de muziekbusiness, vooral in de wereld van de variété. Daarnaast maakte hij enkele soloalbums waarvan Beatoom de derde is. Het album bevat zeer toegankelijke, lichte muziek met een swingend ritme dat nog wordt geaccentueerd door tal van aardige bijgeluidjes die om de diepe bassen en de beat heen draaien. Zo zijn de eerste twee van de in totaal acht stukken weliswaar dansbaar, maar ze bevatten zeker geen techno. In de derde, vierde en zesde track neemt Obraztsoff wat gas terug en aan het begin van Mr. Roy Evans In Deep hoor je wat meer kosmische klanken die echter weer geleidelijk worden opgebouwd naar een langzame, ritmische stijl met een donkere bas en vloeiende klanken. Het betreft meestal enkele akkoorden waaroverheen aardige, doch simpele melodietjes worden gespeeld. Terra Incognita is een stuk dat dicht bij een instrumentale versie van new musik komt oftewel synthipop met een ietwat dreunende basdrumsample. Door de vervormde stem en de gitaar van gastmuzikant Victor Rozenstein gaat de muziek weer meer richting discotheek, waar Obraztsoff overigens geen vreemde is, maar het blijft aardig. De chill out aan het einde heet In-Ice. Beatoom bevat ruim drie kwartier alleraardigste muziek uit Oost-Europa!

The Russian musician Alexey Obraztsoff has been working in the music business for years now, especially as a variety performer. Besides that, he made a few solo albums of which Beatoom is his third. This is very accessible light music that has a swinging rhythm, accentuated by numerous funny little noises that dance around the deep basses and the beat. In this way, the first two of the eight pieces are all danceable but certainly not techno, but on the third, fourth and sixth track he throttles down a bit, so we hear more cosmic sounds at the beginning of Mr. Roy Evans In Deep, sounds that again are being reconstructed little by little to a slow rhythmic style with a dark bass and smooth sounds, usually just a few chords over which nice but simple little melodies are being played. Terra Incognita is a piece that approaches an instrumental version of new musik, in the sense of synthi-pop with a somewhat droning bass-drum sample. Because of the distorted voice and the guitar of guest performer VIctor Rozenstein, you fancie yourself in the discotheque again, where Obraztsoff isn’t a stranger on stage, but it all remains nice. The chill-out at the end is called In-Ice. Beatoom contains more than 45 minutes of charming music from Eastern Europe!
