NEURONIUM Neuroworld Vol. 1

ENGLISH:

The Spanish expert of electronic music (EM) Michel Huygen, has discerned that 5.1 is an uncommonly appropriate way to present his usually very atmospherical and spatial music. The DVD Neuroworld Volume 1contains four pieces of music, partly Illuminated by abstract images and partly by images based on the paintings of Tomás C. Gilsanz. Especially the thin sounds on the second track Kevlar Ways - over twelve minutes of magnificent atmospheric sounds - splendidly show to full advantage, but in my opinion the matching images do not really have much to add. True, the paintings are nice, but all this turning and rotating of the images rather make you feel giddy than relaxed. An alternative would be the umpteenth space trip or you stare at a person who twists some handles and who touches a keyboard now and then for an hour in the sultry light, yet that also isn’t an option. The computer animations based on paintings for instance will certainly be more beautiful and spectacular in the future: so wait and see. The opening Torre Agbar, just as Kevlar Ways originally released on the album Azizi (2002), paints a documentary film on space, with organ sound, orchestrations and the typical Huygen-sound with the synth that somewhat resembles a mezzo-soprano voice. It’s a beautiful and strong peace lasting over five minutes. The third track Hypercaldea is also is a sultry cosmic peace with splendid sound colors and accessible slurring melodies. No droning sequencers of sharp rhythm boxes, you can simply float away nicely and for that you really do not need images. The second part of this ten-minute long track, with the bell ringing, leans towards general melodic a bit. I am sure Jean-Michel Jarre is right in his conviction that Dolby Surround should be the new standard for EM. With his slurring solos, guitar-player Santi Pica enriches the last track Alienikon - well over 21 minutes - of the CD of the same name. For a DVD this release is not particularly long, but nevertheless it surely is an enjoyment of over fifty minutes of an especially fine sound.
