Mystic Spirit Voices (2000) is het debuutalbum van Lesiëm dat eind 2005 opnieuw werd uitgebracht. Volgens de bijgeleverde informatie zou de muzikale inhoud 'Enigma meets Pink Floyd' zijn, maar dat vind ik rijkelijk overdreven. Het lijkt voor mijn beleving bijzonder veel op Era en inderdaad, een kleine beetje op Enigma. De Gregoriaanse zang in het Latijn voert de boventoon op muziek die gemakkelijk in het gehoor ligt. Om die reden zullen er in Amerika ook wel zoveel albums van verkocht zijn. De wereldmuziekachtige loopjes klinken zwoel en lekker, maar o zo bekend en heel af en toe lijkt het gitaargeluid wat op dat van David Gilmour (PInk Floyd). De twaalf nummers kabbelen heerlijk weg, maar erg origineel kan ik het allemaal niet noemen. Het is een typisch voorbeeld van een plaat die scoort, omdat er een goed marketingbeleid achter zit en niet de kwaliteit die zichzelf moet bewijzen. Natuurlijk wordt er goed gemusiceerd en knap gezongen; daarmee is werkelijk niets mis. Ook de productie is prima in orde maar, zoals gezegd, het is gewoon slimme na-aperij van de reeds genoemde bands. Anderzijds kan ik me goed voorstellen dat deze enigszins spirituele en rustgevende muziek een groot publiek aanspreekt. Het is maar net welke invalshoek je kiest. Het mysterie rond wie en wat Lesiëm is, zal binnenkort worden onthuld via een viertal luister-cd’s. Vast lijkt te staan dat de meeste muzikanten, het koor en de technici uit Duitsland komen. Voor de gemiddelde liefhebber van elektronische muziek is dit album geen blinde aanschaf, maar een luisterbeurt via de website is beslist de moeite waard. Daar zijn ook de twee andere albums te beluisteren.

Mystic Spirit Voices (2005) is a reissue of the debut album by Lesiëm. It was originally released in 2000. According to the accompanying information the music sounds like 'Enigma meets Pink Floyd', but I find this qualification a little exaggerated. In my experience the music closely resembles ERA and to a lesser extent Enigma. The Gregorian vocals, sung in Latin, are the main ingredients of this very pleasant album and for that reason this will probably sell well in the American market. The world music beats sound sweet and sultry, but oh, so familiar and the guitar occasionally sounds just like David Gilmour (Pink Floyd). The twelve numbers stream comfortably by, but you cannot really call them original. A typical example of a record that does well due to good marketing and not because of any quality that has to justify itself. Of course, the musicianship is of a high standard and the singing is excellent – nothing wrong there.The production is faultless as well but, as I have said, it looks like a clever copy of the above-mentioned groups. On the other hand I can certainly imagine that this rather spiritual and calming music will appeal to a wide audience. It just depends how you look at it. The mystery around the identity of Lesiëm is due to be revealed shortly with the release of four more CDs and it seems fairly certain that most of the musicians, choir and technicians are from Germany. For the average electronic music fan this is not something to buy blindly, but having a listen to the clips on the website is definitely recommended.
