AMETHYSTIUM Evermind

ENGLISH:

Evermind is the third album from the Norwegian artist Oystein Ramfjord under the moniker of Amethystium. It’s the logical follow-up to the previous albums Odonata and Aphelion. These albums don't rock the boat, but are packed within a nicely designed digipack cover. The eleven tracks are pleasant to my taste, comparing well with those of Gandalf in the eighties and sharing the same quiet and melancholic sphere. The electric guitar is absent, however. The vocal arrangements - Lee Nisbet on Arcus, Shadowlands and Fable, and Marthe Krossbakken on Imaginatio - and the rhythm treatments are further points of departure. I could also hear reminders of Patrick O'Hearn while listening to this album. The beautiful atmospheres Ramfjord creates are a treat for the ears, and the lovely melodies are richly reminiscent of (Celtic) folk music. The pieces all have a clear structure and often give the impression of an ensemble playing. Don't expect sequencers or cosmic trips. This is beautiful music with its foot squarely in the general melodic genre, yet it will be found categorized as a new age album. Various numbers, Lost for example, have a Yanni style approachability, and they will interest lovers of peaceful and melodic symphonic music. Therefore this album was chosen for the Neurodisc (USA) label. It should do particularly well there!
