Michael Huygen is niet meer de enige en ook niet langer de toonaangevende grootmacht op het gebied van de elektronische muziek (EM) in Spanje. Steeds weer komen er interessante uitgaven uit dit Zuid-Europese land, waardoor gelukkig de EM in veel landen onder de aandacht blijft van zowel beoefenaars als luisteraars. De muziek van Dom F. Scab klinkt als afkomstig uit de Berlijnse School met Tangerine Dream-achtige sequences - jaren zeventig tot beginjaren tachtig - maar ook trekjes van Jean Michel Jarre uit zijn beginperiode, zoals in Lighthouse. De informatie over Scab is mondjesmaat en ik weet ook niet welke instrumenten en apparaten hij gebruikt. Vast staat wel dat hij vanaf 1999 al zo'n acht albums heeft uitgebracht en dat hij participeerde bij het Michael Garrison–tribute, dat ook weer een aanwijzing is in welke hoek je zijn muziek moet zoeken. De zeven tracks zijn goed voor bijna een uur aardige en melodieuze EM, waarbij vooral het eerste deel van Dace en Dizziness aan het album Stratosfear (1976) van Tangerine Dream doen denken: pakkende sequences, aardige effecten en wat minder nadruk op melodietjes. De titeltrack begint in donkere sferen, is mooi opgebouwd en vertoont onmiskenbaar zuidelijke trekjes. Ablaze bevat invloeden uit het Midden-Oosten. Dat is weliswaar niet mijn favoriete nummer, maar wel het origineelste. Luister naar de bijzonder intrigerende partij met de gitaarsynthesizer bespeeld door Odracir Lavid. Ritme is her en der wel aanwezig maar niet overheersend. De muziek is zeker niet geschikt voor de dansvloer. Dom F. Scab is een Spaanse kloon van Tangerine Dream met hier en daar een oosters tintje. Al met al een zeer aangenaam schijfje!

The last few years Michael Huygen no longer is the only and certainly not the leading grandmaster of elelctronic music (EM) in Spain. All along, interesting releases come out in this South-European country, so that luckily the EM still is in the spotlight over a large territory both for musicians and listeners. From the Berlin School this music from Dom F. Scab sounds with Tangerine Dream-like sequences from the seventies until the early eighties. But his music is also marked by touches of the early music by Jean-Michel Jarre as in Lighthouse. The information abut Scab is not plentiful nor are the instruments and equipment he uses. Established is that he released about eight albums since 1999. The seven tracks are good for almost an hour of pleasant, melodious EM, of which especially Dace - certainly in the first part - and also Dizziness reminds me of the period Stratosfear (1976) by Tangerine Dream: catchy sequences, nice effects and less emphasis on plain little melodies. The title track is built up fine, it has that undeniable Southern touch and starts in dark atmospheres. Also the sixth piece Ablaze has a Middle-East influence and true enough, these are not my favourite tracks, but certainly the most original. Listen to the exceedingly intriguing guitar synthesizer part, played by Odracir Lavid. Here and there rhythm is present, yet not dominating and certainly not fit for the dance floor, so we hear a Spanish clone of Tangerine Dream at work, with every now and then an Eastern hint. All in all, a lovely album!
