THEATRE DES VAMPIRES (NL+E)

Theatre Des Vampires van Salva Moreno, die musiceert onder het pseudoniem Psicodreamics, is de opvolger van het album Azhdark Passion. Dit album heeft al heel wat draaibeurten in mijn speler gehad sinds de ontvangst. In tegenstelling tot wat de cover en de titel doen vermoeden, is de muziek slechts heel licht 'spookachtig'. Elementen van een minder bombastische Vangelis, Gandalf en heel in de verte Neuronioum of Jean-Michel Jarre - in een passage van La Valse Des Vampires - spelen lichtvoetig door de prachtige, melodieuze elektronische muziek die Moreno heeft opgenomen. De meer mysterieuze, fluisterend klinkende geluiden worden ondersteund door verfijnde ritmes, orkestrale achtergronden en meer conventionele klanken als orgel en piano, terwijl de op een elektrische gitaar gelijkende geluiden het uitstekend doen. De melodielijnen zijn niet echt simpel en de diverse overgangen en veranderingen in stijl en sfeer geven het album een grote mate van variëteit mee. Dat maakt de cd toegankelijk en schept de behoefte om de stukken vaker te willen horen. Ook de enorme variatie aan klankkleuren, zoals keyboards die klinken als een gitaar, een viool, piano of een strijkje en diverse space-achtige synthgeluiden, dragen bij aan de kwaliteit van dit album. De elf stukken, goed voor ruim 53 minuten luistergenot, hebben alle een eigen identiteit en laten nergens agressie horen, maar wel de passie die zowel de componist als zijn inspiratiebron kenmerkt. De combinatie orgel en effecten zorgt wel voor de nodige Dracula-achtige sferen, maar zoals gezegd: de meeste muziek is zeer melodieus en verdient het om er naar te luisteren.

Theatre Des Vampires, the successor to Azhdark Passion, has been in my CD-player al lot of times since it was sent to me. Opposite to what could be expected from such an album title or the cover, the music is only a bit spooky. Influences of a less bombastic Vangelis, Gandalf and maybe a touch of Neuronium or Jean-Michel Jarre in a part of the track La Valse Des Vampires can be heard lightly through the beautiful melodic electronic music (EM) recorded by Salva Moreno alias Psicodreamics. The more mysterious whispering sounds are supported by refined rhythm patterns, orchestral layers and more conventional sounds as organ and piano, whereas the sounds resembling an electric guitar fit in really well. The melodies are not quite simple and the various transitions and changes in either style or atmosphere provide the album with a rich variety, make it accessible and give the listener the urge to turn it on again and again. The enormous diversity in sounds like keyboards sounding like a guitar, strings, piano, violin and several more spacey synth sounds contributes to the quality of this album. The eleven tracks, with a playing time of 53 minutes, all have their own identity but never show signs of aggression but only the passion from both composer and his source of inspiration. The combination of organ and effects provide the somewhat creepy Dracula-like atmosphere now and then but as said, most of the music is very melodic and deserves to be listened to. Theatre Des Vampires leads to addiction and tastes for more!
