WLADYSLAW KOMENDAREK Szafirowa Chimera

ENGLISH:

The Polish musician Wladyslaw Komendarek recorded Szafirowa Chimera at the age of 47. He grew up in an extremely musical family. He came in contact with music at a very early age. During the early seventies he was a member of the group Exodus and his first solo album appeared in 1985. His melodic electronic music reflects influences from both classical and folk music and varies from stately orchestral pieces to more frivolous works in which the electronic gypsy in him is revealed. Despite the fact that Poland, certainly at the time, was very much behind the western countries with respect to technology and possibilities, this CD with a playing time of 73 minutes, is worth seeking out because there are a number of especially attractive melodic pieces here containing interesting samples and gorgeous sequences. Without doubt, the work of a very talented musician, who has absolutely made the most of his own potential and that of his instruments. It´s difficult to name any specific influences here, but I do hear echoes of Vangelis, Jean Michel Jarre and the album Constellation by Klaus Doldinger, just listen to Spirit Spectre, and also German progressive music in an electronic form. There are recognizable moments of Tangerine Dream in the long track Epoch Mirror whereas the rhythm and children’s choir lend it a synth pop feel. The latter is more directly present in the rhythmic Path To Paradise with its many effects and voice samples, which I particularly dislike, dropped in here and there. This one could have been left out and the other slightly too pop-orientated tracks, in my opinion, distract from the other wonderful pieces here. Overall, though, this is a thoroughly worthwhile album.
