PHOENIX (NL+E)

Program@ bestaat uit J.M. Ciria en J.A. Lopez en maakt lichtvoetige, vaak ritmische elektronische muziek (EM), waarbij je kunt denken aan ons eigen Future World Orchestra, maar dan zonder zang. Het album Phoenix bestaat uit negen tracks die samen goed zijn voor ruim een uur muziek en waarin diverse stijlen binnen de EM worden bewandeld. Een nummer als Airborne geeft het orgelgeluid een wat meer psychedelisch getint geluid.Vermillion een space-achtige track met zwevende melodietjes op een basis van ijle sequences en donkere ritmeklanken, die echter subtiel en niet overheersend aanwezig zijn. Swingender en melodieuzer zijn Flutter en The Lake District. Laatstgenoemd nummer zou het goed doen bij iemand die in een sportschool op de loopband bezig is. Een potje tafeltennis zou het decor kunnen zijn van het begin van Feline dat echter snel verandert naar iets wat in mijn beleving ook van het voor velen waarschijnlijk onbekende Spectral Display afkomstig had kunnen zijn. Meer lounge is het nummer G 90 en dit bijzonder aardige album wordt afgesloten met Minotaur’s Labyrinth, een gevarieerd stuk muziek met ritmische en mooie melodieuze passages en er zijn invloeden uit de zuidelijke landen te herkennen.

Program@ is a duo consisting of J.M. Ciria and J.A. Lopez. They create light, often rhythmic electronic music (EM) on Phoenix sounding a bit like the Dutch group Future World Orchestra, but without the vocals. By using organ sounds in a track like Airborne, the overall sound gets a more psychedelic feel. Within the nine tracks, over an hour of music altogether, a multitude of EM-genres is represented. Vermillion is more of a spacey track with its floating melodies based on thin sequences and dark rhythmic sounds, which are very subtle and definitely do not dominate the track. Flutter and The Lake District are a bit more upbeat and melodic. This last track would be perfect for someone running on a treadmill in the gym. A game of table tennis would fit nicely with the opening part of Feline, which soon changes into a track that might just as well have been a creation by the fairly unknown Spectral Creation. G 90 is more or less a lounge track. The closing track for this good album is Minotaur's Labyrinth, a varied piece of music with rhythmical parts, beautiful melodic passages and some influences from the southern countries.
