AMBIETHERNUM (NL+E)

De Spaanse beoefenaar van elektronische muziek (EM) Salva Moreno, is al sinds 1990 actief om als Psicodreamics zijn eigen interpretatie van EM te creëren. Het hier besproken nieuwe album dat luistert naar de naam Ambiethernum is een compilatie van eerder uitgebrachte stukken van zijn vorige albums, maar dan specifiek in de ambient- en spacestijl. De zes albums die Salva tot op heden heeft uitgebracht - compilaties en remasters niet meegerekend - zijn alle zes met twee tracks vertegenwoordigd. Uitzonderingen zijn Eternal Angels met drie tracks en The Garden met één. Voor mensen die al het werk van Psicodreamics hebben, voegt dit album dus niet veel toe, maar voor wie dat niet geldt en een kosmische trip wil maken, zou dit wel eens een uitstekende aanschaf kunnen zijn. De cd die ruim 62 minuten duurt, is verrijkt met MP3 files. De zoete, zwevende klanken zijn ontspannend, maar het wat mystieke karakter ervan zorgen ervoor dat de luisteraar erbij blijft en rustig maar belangstellend afwacht naar wat komen gaat. Natuurgeluiden en ondersteunende keyboards zijn het decor voor de duidelijke melodielijnen die door blaasinstrumentsamples worden vertolkt in de derde track. Vervolgens gaat de muziek enigszins richting melodieuze EM, omdat er een prominent ritme aanwezig is naast de aparte sequence die klinkt alsof Moreno die heeft ingespeeld door te hameren op verschillende lege glazen flessen. Stakes And Garlics is meer spacey, terwijl het daaropvolgende Luminous en On The Shore Of Neu wat dreigend klinken, maar vervolgens toch weer vriendelijk doorkabbelen. De zang en de pratende stemmetjes hadden voor mij niet gehoeven. Ruimtelijke sferen met kristalheldere geluiden en tal van effecten vormen een mooie brug naar meer kosmische klanken in onder meer The Beyond. Die nodigen uit om de ogen te sluiten, maar de herkenbare melodietjes houden dit op aangename wijze tegen. The Garden hangt weer tegen melodieuze EM aan en Twilight Dream sluit het album majestueus af. Een bijzonder aardige compilatie in een eigengereide stijl.

The Spanish electronic musician Salva Moreno has been working very dedicatedly to establish his own interpretation of electronic music (EM) as early as from 1990. Ambiethernum is a compilation of earlier recordings, previously released on other albums but now specifically in the ambient and space style. From the six studio albums, compilations and remastered albums not taken into account, each album is represented by two tracks. Only from Eternal Angels three tracks have been put on this compilation album and from The Garden only one. For those who are familiar with works by Psicodreamics and have all the albums in their collection, this compilation doesn’t bring anything new, but for those who don’t own all of his works or those who just want to make a delightful cosmic trip, this album could be an excellent purchase. The CD is clocking well over 62 minutes and is enhanced with MP3-files. The sweet floating sounds are soothing and relaxing, but their somewhat mystic character make sure the listener doesn’t drift away but calmly and eagerly awaits what’s coming next. In the third track we hear sounds from ‘mother nature’ and accompanying keyboards are the decorum for eloquent melody lines, performed by samples of woodwind instruments. The musical direction then changes somewhat into the genre of melodic EM, because there’s a prominent rhythm next to the peculiar sequence with sounds as if Mr. Moreno is hammering a number of different sized empty glass bottles. Stakes And Garlics sounds a little more spacey, while Lunimous and also On The Shore Of Neu create a more spooky, scary atmosphere but when the tracks evolve, it all sounds very friendly again. Personally I would have like the music even more without the chanting and spoken words. A special atmosphere combined with crystal clear sounds and loads of special effects build a tasteful bridge to more cosmic sounds as in The Beyond. These sounds really invite you to close your eyes and drift away but the recognizable lovely melodies prevent that from happening in a very pleasant way. The Garden is a track leaning towards the finest EM again and Twilight Dream truly is a majestical finale. A very nice compilation in a Moreno's own distinctive style.
